Dr. Luís Madeira, Polytechnic Institute of Beja, Portugal

Luís Madeira holds a PhD in Marine, Earth, and Environmental Sciences, specializing in Environmental Sciences and Technology, from the University of Algarve. His research focuses on low-cost effluent treatment processes, including chemical precipitation, atmospheric carbonation, adsorption, phytoremediation, and bioremediation. With a keen interest in sustainable solutions, he explores the reuse of treated effluents for food production in hydroponic systems and the valorization of effluent by-products. Luís has contributed to 8 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, co-authored European and national patents, and presented communications on wastewater treatment and reuse. As a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, he is currently involved in the InsectERA project, advancing insect industry research.
